Life Begins at Forty
- W.B. Pitkin

It's hard to believe but this month marks our 40th year in business.  We've seen a lot over the years and have always worked to remain responsive to meet the changing needs of our customers and industry.  What began purely as a data entry company in 1976 (remember punch cards?) has grown into a full service business support organization.  Today we offer a broad range of services all designed to make life easier for our growing list of clients.

Something else that has changed over the years is the way we are able to communicate with you, our customers.  In addition to this newsletter, I'm proud to announce that we're now on Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter.  Please check us out on these forums.  Who knows, someday we may even have a YouTube channel... but probably not.

As always we want to thank you for allowing us to serve you.  A company doesn't last 40 years in business today on its own.  We recognize that our success is ultimately measured by your success.

Activity vs Productivity: Signs that you need help

Many of us fall into the trap of confusing activity with productivity.  We mistakenly believe that being busy in automatically good for the business.  But how much of your time is being spent performing non-value-added tasks related to bookkeeping, invoicing, marketing, paying bills, and other administrative tasks?

Do any of these sound like you?
  • You're overwhelmed with bookkeeping, invoicing, paying bills and other administrative tasks.
  • You are working harder and longer but not growing your business.
  • You regularly work 10, 12 or more hours a day and still feel like you're behind.
  • You're not web-proficient or know how to best leverage your web site and social media.
  • You can't afford to hire full time help
You didn't go into business to balance ledgers, send invoices, update web pages, or perform any number of administrative or marketing tasks.  You want to concentrate on billable, money-making activities.  Every minute spent away from your core business activities is money lost.

CDPS offers back office support to serve a number of your needs.  We can even set you up with a social media presence and campaigns.

Ask the Geek
Question: What is JMP?

Answer JMP, or "Jump" was developed at the SAS Institute. It is a computer program for statistics.   To make statistical analysis more user friendly, JMP was created to take advantage of the graphical user interface of the Macintosh computer.  Since it was created in the 1980s, the program has undergone a number of changes and enhancements.   Today JMP is available on Windows and used in a wide variety of applications.

CDPS offers JMP conversion and database services.  Get more information here.

Forty years ago...
Do you remember 1976? It was our nation's bicentennial, Montreal hosted the summer Olympics, and the Cincinnati Reds captured   a the World Series with a sweep of the Yankees.

But we also had it pretty rough:
  • We couldn't simply "Google" something. So yes we had to learn to use an encyclopedia!  (Don't know what an encyclopedia is? Google it.)
  • We had to learn to read (and fold) a road map!
  • There was no spell check .. we took our chancis.
  • A cell phone? What's that? We carried 25 cents so we could use the pay phone.
  • It took 15 minutes to fax documents.

And yet somehow we survived!
